Welcome from the Mayor

Welcome to Stratford – home to world class employers, a highly skilled workforce, excellent transportation access, and affordable living.

Recognized worldwide as the birthplace of the American helicopter industry in 1939, Stratford has excellent transportation access that has attracted and sustained economic development over the years. We are ideally situated at the intersection of Fairfield and New Haven counties, and bisected by both Interstate 95 and Metro North rail service lines. The Merritt Parkway and Route 8/25 offer convenient access to the entire Northeast corridor. And Stratford is adjacent to Bridgeport – Connecticut’s largest city – where a deep water harbor provides excellent docking and terminal facilities for domestic and overseas shipping.

But more than a transportation hub, Stratford is a business-friendly community that attracts highly skilled workers, many of whom decide to live here, too. We enjoy a truly unique quality of life in Stratford. We’ve built a stellar school system that prepares our children well for the future, and we provide unparalleled services for our senior residents. Our 17 miles of coastline, beautiful parks and recreational facilities, and rich cultural heritage make working and living in Stratford a one-of-a-kind experience.

As a lifelong resident of Stratford, I’ve watched our evolution from a sleepy manufacturing town into a nexus of commerce, business and development.

The 2,200 businesses established in Stratford run the gamut from Sikorsky, A Lockheed Martin Company, which employs 8,800 workers, to our smaller research facilities. Stratford hosts a wide range of service and commercial firms, from skilled healthcare facilities and worldwide shipping companies. Our manufacturers do it all – whether it’s making pasta, beer, or customized electrical fittings.

And we offer customized office and commercial space too, whether you need 700,000 square ft. at the Lake Success Business Park or more intimate settings like those used by medical testing services, small businesses and our many fine restaurants.

The common denominator in all of our economic success stories – and in the opportunities here for you – is the personal attention we give to make everyone feel welcome. We will help you with site selection, walk you through the assessment and approval processes, and be there to cut the ribbon on your new facility. Once you’ve made Stratford home, my door in the Mayor’s Office will always be open to you.

I believe we are truly blessed to work and live in a community like Stratford with so much to offer. As mayor, I’m committed to working each and every day to ensure that Stratford continues to be a place that we can be proud of. I know you’ll be proud to live and work here, too.
