The Mayor's Reading Challenge Returns!


Open to all Stratford students ages 0-12, students can become a Mayor's Reading Champion by reading eight books this summer.
Register by August 3rd to participate. Champions will receive a Reading Champion Certificate, and recognition at the Summer Reading Challenge Celebration on August 10th at the Historic Perry House where Champions will receive ice cream sundaes and other surprises.
In the event of inclement weather, the Mayor's Office will be handing out certificates, goody bags and ice cream inside Erin's Gym, located at 2275 Main Street, Stratford, CT, behind Sterling House Community Center.

L-R: Town Council Chairman Chris Pia, Ms. Connecticut Senior America Debra Walls, Mayor Laura R. Hoydick. Debra was recently named Ms. Connecticut Senior America. She was presented a proclamation on behalf of the Town in recognition of her achievement.

 

Mayor Hoydick and Tondrea Mabins, owner of Reader's Block at their grand opening at 2420 Main St., in the Colonial Square Plaza.

 

Mayor Laura Hoydick joined in celebrating Stratford’s own Major Dick Steele’s 100th Birthday! She presented a proclamation on behalf of the Town at a gathering celebrating his life and service. Dick served as a Marine Corps pilot flying SBD Dauntless dive bombers, Corsairs, and SB2C Helldivers with Marine Bombing Squadron 932 during WWII, taking part in numerous bombing missions against the Empire of Japan through the end of the war. He went on to train pilots during the Korean War, retiring at the rank of Major.
