IOAD 2025

STRATFORD, CT — The Town of Stratford will recognize International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) and the 2025 theme, “One Big Family, Driven by Hope,” with a public reading of a mayoral proclamation this Thursday, August 21st, at 9:00 a.m. at Stratford Town Hall.

Mayor Laura R. Hoydick will deliver the proclamation, affirming Stratford’s commitment to supporting all who are impacted by addiction and overdose. “This year’s theme reflects Stratford’s belief that our town is more than a collection of residents — we are an extended family. Through our departments, schools, first responders, health providers, and community organizations, Stratford works tirelessly to provide safety, resources, and compassion to every person, without stigma or judgment.”

International Overdose Awareness Day is observed globally on August 31st and in Stratford with a week of community events from August 25th through August 31st. These activities aim to raise awareness of overdose risks, remember those lost, and connect individuals and families with support services, thus removing the stigma of reaching out for help.

“In Stratford, no one should struggle alone,” said Mayor Hoydick. “We are a community driven by hope — hope for prevention, hope for recovery, and hope for a community free of stigma and full of compassion.”

The public is encouraged to attend the August 21st proclamation reading to stand in solidarity with survivors, families, and advocates. Father Peter Adamski from St. James will begin with an invocation and conclude with the benediction, and Jennifer E. Kolakowski, CEO of community partner, Recovery Network of Programs, will provide a few remarks as well.
