A nor’easter may bring periods of strong winds and coastal flooding to our area over the weekend, likely beginning Saturday night or early Sunday, through Monday. While we do not know the severity of the storm yet, it is important to take a few simple steps now to stay safe—especially if you or a loved one rely on medical equipment (such as oxygen).
Be Prepared:
Ensure backup power: Fully charge all battery-powered medical devices and have spare batteries ready. If you use oxygen concentrators, confirm you have access to a generator or other backup power source.
Have essential supplies on hand: Keep at least a 72-hour supply of oxygen, medications, food, and water.
Secure your home: Bring in or tie down outdoor items and make sure windows and doors are properly closed to prevent damage from wind or rain. Move vehicles in low-lying areas to higher ground.
Review your evacuation plan: Know where the nearest shelter is and how you would get there if needed.
Keep key contacts nearby: Have your healthcare provider, oxygen supplier, and local emergency numbers easily accessible.
Be Aware: Stay away from downed power lines and tree limbs; do not drive through standing water or areas that have been barricaded for your safety.
Your well-being is our priority. Taking these steps now will help ensure you and your loved ones stay safe and comfortable throughout the storm.
